Grrrrr….Omm….buu….lusssss!!!!

This is what I’m currently working on. Right now it’s a collaboration with Jamie Flam, Vanessa Ragland, Caryn Ruby, Valerie Dambold and whoever else wants to join in on the fun. Initially I wanted a song of made up jibberish that I could make a video to. I wanted to be able to throw in a lot of ornaglyphs and create something that wasn’t a literal interpretation of something else. Later on Jamie and I both decided it would be even more fun and exciting to open up the project to anyone who feels like contributing. Guidelines are below. Let me know if there are any questions!

The Song: You can listen to it here. This was written and performed by Jamie and Vanessa. I just noticed the link is broken so if you want in email me: info@ornaglyphology.com and I will send an mp3.

What I am looking for: Original artwork that is inspired by the song. This can include backdrops, paintings, scribbles, doodles, cartoon characters, ascemic writing, paint splatters, photographs, short video clips (5-20 seconds), etc. I will be using almost everything that gets contributed. And I want to emphasize that all skill levels are welcome! Even if you don’t feel like you are creative please jump in anyways, this will be fun! Be as spontaneous as you want to be. I will be using images/video layered in with my animations to be part of the scenery/atmosphere. The submissions may even influence what happens within the video on my end.

Things to know:

  •  Original art only please. Art/photos should be high-resolution (at least 300dpi). Keep in mind that I will be altering and layering the artwork to fit within the video and to create a consistent atmosphere. Email me at info@ornaglyphology.com if you want to contribute!
  • As of right now there is no deadline. When I get closer to finishing my art I will have a better of idea of when I need art from contributers!
  •  My motivation for creating this video is fun, experience and learning. I have no plans on monetizing Grombulus (except maybe for fundraising for charity, those plans are in the distant future) so there’s no pay involved here. Anyone who contributes will be in the credits.

From gods to dogs….

This week I worked on a small series of dog paintings. I wanted to have a recent example of what my pet portraits can look like and to also have some available on hand for the upcoming holiday season. If you have a request for a specific breed consider ordering a custom painting or shoot me an email with any questions at info@ornaglyphology.com.

Lola La-La-La-La Lola

20 Nov

This is the oldest cat from my family (she lives with my parents). Lola is a Bengal. She was the runt of her litter so she is tiny but quite ferocious. She loves attention and is very jealous. If you pick her up and say “kiss” she will bump her nose on your nose…she likes to do this three times in a row, but if you do it more she will bite your nose (then she’ll put her paw on your cheek and dig her claws in a little in case you decide to put her down). When I would get home from school we used to play this game where I would chase her into my parents room then go back to the living room and she would slowly come out and when she got close I would chase her again. Lola is best friends with my middle sister and I am using this painting to blackmail her into visiting me in Chicago (my family lives in New Hampshire).

One more thing: One time Lola jumped on my face in the middle of the night, when I was asleep. Having a cat jump on your face when you are dead asleep is one of the most disturbing things you could wake up too. I freaked out and her natural instinct was to claw my face. When I got up the next day I had streaks of dried blood running down my face.

Ornagifts!

12 Oct

If you have thought about ordering a custom portrait from me now is a great time to do it…especially if you were considering giving a portrait as a gift. I will be taking orders until November 7th in order to have them shipped off in time for the holidays. Another reason to consider this is that I’m giving myself a big raise starting January 1st.

I offer my gouache paintings on 3/8″ thick artist board that is ready to hang (no frame needed). I also offer digital portraits which are sent via email (and you take care of the printing).

To order a painting send an email to mintimindi@yahoo.com with some photos of the subject/s, and what size you want and I will get back to you with a total estimate (I add cost of shipping and insurance to orders).  Artwork will not be sent until I receive full payment.

Sizes are show in inches.

4×4 $30

6×6 $40

6×12 $75

8×8 $70

This is really Birdorable!

24 Sep

A couple days ago I was surfing the web, checking out other sites that offer coloring books, and came across this great website called Birdorable. Arthur and Amy have created a large collection of birds (drawn in the style that you see in this image) which can be purchased on all kinds of merchandise (and many of them are quite humorous). They also include a blog, free educational coloring pages, desktops, e-cards, and more. And they also donate money to various bird-related causes.

Re-girl your legs

18 Sep

Wild Thang!

My friend Kelly and her partner Graciela have started up a very cute leg-warmer making business named Re-girl. They upcycle t-shirts into one-of-a-kind warmers. From their website: Re-Girl, founded by artist Kelly D. Pelka and fashion designer Graciela Llorente, is street art inspired fashion using secondhand clothing as well as one of a kind artist designed eco friendly fabrics to create legwarmers, belts and more!  Bright and bold colors juxtaposed with typography and graphic imagery make these accessories a fun addition to any wardrobe.  Show off your style and “Re-Girl” yourself!

Re-girl is currently only available in Chicago at the Rockwell Crossing Art and Crafts Walk in Lincoln Square on Saturday, October 9th and at The DIY Trunk Show. Bookmark their website and check back if you live far away.

To promote my coloring book I thought it would be fun to have friends, fans and other artists to each color in a page. So far 10 people have agreed to participate, which means I have 14 more slots open.  Anyone who participates will get a free copy of the e-book.  As people send in their pages I will be posting them on my blog. Once I have at least 10 images back I will be putting them in my virtual 3-D gallery in Second Life. Each participant will get full credit and linked to anything they are working on if they wish. Feel free to come up with a caption to go along w/ the page and it might turn into an exquisite corpse story. Kids are welcome to participate too.

How to participate: Send me an email to: info@ornaglyphology.com letting me know. I will send you your page within a day or two. When you are done just email me a scanned copy along with any other info you want to include. Once I get your colored in image I will email you the e-book!
