happy weird

25 Aug

I was checking out the Free Music Archive tonight and came across this great French band Vialka. I was getting tons of ideas for an animation while I was listening to them. Their music is strange and experimental with happy overtones and a hint of darkness which I think works w/ my art style. The song I really want to animate is called 100% Hello. I was breaking down the song into parts and it goes kind of like this: Ya-hoo gypsy ya-hoo noise-ish kazoo piano flying up funky weird opera w/ beats whirlwind.

Since I haven’t scanned any part of the new projects I’m working on I thought I would post this video by my good friend Kelly Pelka, with music by Jim Shea. She alternates between images of her mixed-media artworks and photography.  It’s a great use of video to showcase her awesome art! Check it out!

A little inspiration…

I have to put this in so this blog doesn’t feel so empty. I listen to A LOT of music and often think that even though I am a visual artist I would rather be blind than deaf (if I had to choose between one or the other). So I’ll be posting music that I enjoy from time to time.

My boyfriend (Calvin) was listening to The Monks and this is one of my favorite songs by them. For anyone who doesn’t know who they are they were a bunch of soldiers who were stationed in Germany during the 60’s. There is a documentary about them called “Monks: The Transatlantic Feedback” that I really want to see. Ok, enjoy!
