The Bedroom Scene

16 Jan

Here is another background for the video. I still need to add a couple details. I want to put in a rifle, curtains and a side table. I also need to be able to make the woman jump out of bed, so the blanket needs to fold over. I also think at some point during this verse Kip is going to stick his head up in the window to sing. I might have John (the guy in bed) dreaming about a grey goose.

Ornaglyphs = Magic and Love

18 Dec

Recently I was commissioned to create this painting that a client ordered as a gift for her beau. She asked me to do whatever I wanted as long as it took place in the restaurant that she sent me photo of. Her boyfriend owns this restaurant in Europe. I’m being vague because he hasn’t received the painting yet (but she gave me permission to post it). I have never been asked to do a setting in one of my paintings so this was a challenge but I am very happy with how it came out.

When I sent my client a photo of the painting she sent me a couple emails that made me super happy. She told me how she met her boyfriend and that the painting eerily depicts it. This is an excerpt from one of the emails she sent me:

One more thing, and then I’ll stop gushing. The night I met M. — I was a customer(!) and he was working front of house (which he almost NEVER does, he’s always in the kitchen) — I stayed at the restaurant for hours. I even helped him close, and we sat alone in the restaurant talking until very, very late at night. The two lovebirds in the painting (the way they’re looking at each other!) — I’ve decided they’re M. and I. Well, those lovebirds are not only sitting at the same table that M. and I sat at, but they’re in the exact same PLACES. It makes me smile.

The reason this is so cool to me is because I work very spontaneously. Basically I sketched out the scene then added the characters in afterward before I painted it. There was no planning involved, no thumbnails and no consultations between my client and I.

Virtual Dr. Sketchys

26 Sep

I attended a virtual Dr. Sketchy’s last night in Second Life (hosted by Tart Gallery). This is one of my sketches (I have to admit I’m a bit rusty in figure drawing so I know this could use some work). It was fun and challenging. They gave people 10 minutes per pose so I sketched this out last night then spent an hour and a half inking it with ball point pen. One of the biggest challenges is that the physics in Second Life are kind of wonky, so things don’t lay as they naturally would. The avatars have textures on them and that doesn’t always match up with the lighting. Considering it was done with basically video game characters it was pretty good though. And there was a great music stream being played, and other cool artists participating. If it works out with my schedule I hope to do it again.

Coloring Book Cover

Every day for the past week I have been coming home from my day job to sit in front of the computer to: scan pages, edit the images in Photoshop, edit them again in Illustrator, design a cover and back cover and upload everything to Lulu. Phew!

Well this is a peek at the front cover of the coloring book! I spent hours yesterday on this thing. Not to mention I pretty much taught myself how to use Illustrator. I LOVE using Live Trace.

I’m pretty happy with how this came out. I think it screams  “HEY I”M A COLORING BOOK!!!!!”. Right?

Sometime this week I am planning on putting up a free sample page and will also give you readers the link to my lulu shop where you will be able to purchase a hard copy or an e-book as promised.

Now I am going to pass out and prepare myself for the day job (which consists of more staring at a computer all day).

The coloring book is now available to purchase here.
